Mississippi Bees is a first generation operation that is family owned and operated. One day I mentioned to my wife that I thought we should buy some bees. She wondered and asked why bees. I had a little knowledge about them but thought this was something that my family and I could do together. When we started, I didn't realize how hard it was to just buy bees in our local area. It was a real challenge at first. I bought 6 bee hives and built from there. The first place we sold our honey was at the Mississippi Farmers Market. We stayed there for 7 years. The first store we sold product in to was McDade's. I can remember sitting in Babalu's asking my wife if she wanted to walk across the street and take pictures of our product sitting on the shelf. We were so excited! Then Whole Foods approached us about selling our product after McDade's. And from there, we just grew. We are now strictly wholesale. We have about 40 stores that we supply in 3 states.
