Geneva Springs Farm
Geneva Springs Farm is devoted to finding and promoting natural growing techniques. It is our goal to teach individuals and groups different methods of farming. We look to reduce work, increase production and help provide food security. We specialize in heirloom and unusual crops and look to explore growing methods that accommodate individuals with special needs (physical limitations, space limitations, etc.).
To support our goals, the farm produces a variety of products for sale including pepper sauce, pepper flakes, dried peppers and various other goods made from produce grown here. Starting in 2020, we will offer more fresh goods including cabbage, collards, peppers, tomatoes, squash, watermelon, sweet potatoes and other vegetables. We will also have seeds and plants available in the spring.
What Makes Our Products Great?
Geneva Springs Farm was born of a love of gardening instilled by my grandmother, Geneva Hilliard Sturgis, and a challenge from a man I consider family, Joe DeBlasio, who explained that a Hot Portugal Pepper could not be grown in MS. He, of course, did not know it was a challenge at the time. From those two formative events, Geneva Springs Farm was born. It is dedicated to producing naturally grown crops that are not routinely found on most farms or in individual gardens. We specialize in heirloom and hybrid crops that have often have a special place in history and many people's memories of farming as children. Our crops have geographic significance as some seeds have come from countries sometimes devastated by wars and natural disasters; seed saving has been made a priority to prevent the loss of these plants. We also seek to introduce many traditionally heirloom crops to the community at large. All of our sauces, flakes, pickles, etc. come from produce naturally grown on our farm. First and foremost we are a family and our products are family, tested, approved, and sold. What makes us most proud of producing Genuine MS products?
At Geneva Springs Farm, we love a challenge. Our farm is most proud that we grow a variety of crops, many of which are not known to the consumers in our local community. We look forward to trying new varieties of peppers, tomatoes, squash, eggplant, collards, cabbage and other crops and introducing our fellow Mississippians to new ways of growing food, cooking and eating. How does buying Genuine MS products make a difference here in Mississippi?
Supporting Mississippi farmers, gives the people of our state a better connection to the land on which we were born and on which many generations have come and gone. Local farmers tend to be more sensitive in protecting the land they are connected to and more likely to pass on farming to future generations, thereby improving food stability in the state and reducing the dependence of outside sources. Locally grown food tends to provide more variety as well as better taste as the food does not have to travel long distances and is fresher when consumers purchase it. Last but not least, purchasing Mississippi grown produce puts money back into our local economies. Farms employ workers and purchase goods as well as contributing to local communities. Genuine MS products give the consumers of MS an opportunity to promote local farming and experience the richness that is MS.Why should people seek out and buy Genuine MS products?
