The key feature of the products we create is called "fractal wood burning". Fractal burning utilizes high voltage/amperage electricity to create lightning-like figures in wood. In 2021, we began experimenting by making Christmas gifts for family and friends. The gifts were well received and we were told, "Y'all could sell these, they are beautiful!" Soon, our experiment/hobby/pastime became Black Dawg Designs, named for our family dog, Ebony. We began selling at the MS Farmers Market on High Street in Jackson in April of 2022 and have been there most Saturdays ever since. We also attend area Craft Shows & Festivals and enjoy meeting and sharing our product with new as well as repeat customers.

What Makes Our Products Great?

Our product is great because of the unique fractal burns on each piece. Every piece is different because the path of an electrical burn cannot be duplicated, making each piece one of a kind. We add an epoxy finish on many of our boards, which sets our product apart from other fractal burn pieces. We especially enjoy when former customers who have purchased our products for themselves come back to buy something as a gift for their family or friends.

What makes us most proud of producing Genuine MS products?

My husband and I are Mississippi natives and are proud this is our home. Each of our Mississippi families goes back over 200 years, although we are from different parts of the State. We value the culture of our ancestors and still enjoy hunting, fishing, and raising our own food. We take pride in hand crafting something that people admire.

How does buying Genuine MS products make a difference here in Mississippi?

In today's global economy, so many of the goods we all purchase come from places other than the United States, let alone Mississippi! It's a shame that all of us send so much of our wealth to other parts of the world. Genuine MS is a small but meaningful way to keep some of that money right here in our home state of Mississippi! We are both proud to point to items that we have purchased from other Genuine Mississippi producers, be it durable goods like ours, or locally sourced farm products.
