Poultry is Mississippi's largest agricultural industry and the Mississippi Poultry Association represents all aspects of the industry.
With $3 billion paid to growers and direct employment of 28,500 people, the industry has a total impact on Mississippi's economy of $20 billion, according to the National Chicken Council and the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association. That same report estimates the industry pays $1.5 billion in federal, state and local taxes.
In addition to the 1,700 family-run poultry farms around the state, Mississippi has 50 processing plants, hatcheries, feed mills and egg farms.
