Repousse’ is a metalworking technique that has been around since 400 B.C. It was originally used by the Greeks by applying a pushing forward method to metals. Chuck Rhoads creates handmade Repousse’ plates and trays. Chuck is a retired art teacher who creates the designs and hand-makes each piece of artwork. These plates have been accepted into the Mississippi Craftsman Guild, 2020. Chuck has received many awards which include: the Thad Cochran Distinguished Arts Educator Award by the Mississippi Alliance for Arts Education in 2004; the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts for the Arts in Education by Governor Haley Barbour and the Mississippi Arts commission in 2011; Mississippi Art Educator of the year by the National Art Education Association in 2019; and National Educator of the year 2020 by Keep America Beautiful.
